Nursery Propagator Vacancy

Sheltered Work Opportunities Project is a registered charity based in Bournemouth and Poole that offers support, rehabilitation and community to adults with severe and enduring mental illness through the use of therapeutic horticulture.

A vacancy has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic plant propagator with proven recent experience of propagating shrubs, herbaceous and perennial plants, grasses, cuttings and seeds in a commercial setting. The role will involve the growing in excess of 150,000 plants to meet the retail and trade needs of the two sites and is based at our site in Northbourne, Bournemouth BH10. Although the role is primarily propagation, it will involve all aspects of plant production and general nursery duties, deliveries and customer enquiries.

The position also involves the supervision of service users working within the propagation unit and the person taking on the role will need to be patient, a good communicator, empathetic and flexible in approach. All staff at the project are DBS checked and this is a condition of employment.

The position is full-time Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm but with the requirement to cover three annual events at weekends for which time off in lieu is given. This is a rewarding role for the right person and salary is commensurate with experience.

A full UK driving licence is required.
