Large deciduous bushy shrub, grown for its striking purple-black glossy deeply-cut foliage and pink-tinged flowerheads in early summer, followed by glossy black elderberry fruits. Can be pruned hard to desired size. Retains colour best in dappled shade. Ideal for bringing colour to a mixed or shrub border. An easily grown alternative to a purple acer.
