Continued upgrade of our sales area: sales tunnel.
Long known as ‘the green tunnel’, and suffering from decay, a generous donation has enabled us to upgrade this tunnel and remove all the rotting netting. A clear polythene top should make it lighter and brighter. We plan to repair, replace or renew all the benches, and to make the tunnel safer and more pleasant to visit by replacing the flooring material. We have removed the netting from one side to tempt more customers to come in and see the plants on sale in this tunnel.

Polytunnel repair programme
Many of our tunnels have been built for more than 10 years now, and the timber and polythene need to be replaced. Our volunteers enjoy being involved in all these projects, especially the day when we put on the new cover, when everyone is involved. Sadly, two tunnels succumbed to the winter storms. Luckily, they were very old and needed replacing anyway!

New growing house
After a cold wet winter, we realised how helpful it would be to have an extra tunnel to produce stock for the early market. We have to increase our income from sales as much as possible, and this would really help us to do so. Building it would also be an excellent training exercise for our volunteers, and give additional covered working space on wet days.

Ongoing repairs and maintenance
These continue as always. Slabs need cleaning, buildings, seats and benches need staining, doors need repairing. The work never ends!
