Fundraising for new buildings
The major focus of our efforts now is our fundraising programme to replace our buildings. We would be very grateful to anyone who could support us in this most necessary endeavour. For more information, see our ‘Future Plans’ page, where you can download our full fundraising proposal.

Research programme underway
Bournemouth University’s three-year research programme, ‘the Horticultural Nursery as a Restorative Environment’ is now well underway. We are eagerly anticipating the results of this groundbreaking study.

Paths in the sales area: help needed!
These paths urgently need replacing. They have been laid for a long time now and are starting to crumble. We are wondering if there is anyone who can help us with this undertaking? The best, safest and most hard-wearing replacement would be concrete, eco-concrete of course (50% Pulverised Fly Ash). Does anyone work for a building company or a concrete company who might be able to help us with this, getting some useful publicity at the same time??

Continuing upgrade of our sales area: sales tunnel.
Long known as ‘the green tunnel’, and suffering from decay, a generous donation enabled us to upgrade this tunnel and remove all the rotting netting during the winter. A clear polythene top has made it lighter and brighter. We have repaired, replaced or renewed all the benches, and made the tunnel safer and more pleasant to visit by replacing the flooring material. We removed the netting from one side to tempt more customers to come in and see the plants on sale in this tunnel. The new improved area has proved very popular.

Polytunnel repair programme
Many of our tunnels have been built for more than ten years now, and the timber and polythene need to be replaced. Our volunteers enjoy being involved in all these projects, especially on the day when we put on the new cover, when everyone is involved. Sadly, two tunnels succumbed to the winter storms. Luckily, they were very old and needed replacing anyway!

New growing house
After a cold wet winter, we realised how helpful it would be to have an extra tunnel to produce stock for the early market. We have to increase our income from sales as much as possible, and this would really help us to do so. Building it would also be an excellent training exercise for our volunteers, and give additional covered working space on wet days. This is a project we hope to start next winter.

Ongoing repairs and maintenance
These continue as always. Slabs need cleaning, buildings, seats and benches need staining, doors need repairing. The work never ends!
